Je genauer bekannt ist, unter welchen Umweltbedingungen Rollen bzw. Räder eingesetzt werden, desto gezielter kann die Auswahl darauf abgestimmt werden. Dadurch können vorzeitige Ausfälle der Rolle durch Korrosion, Oberflächenveränderungen, Festigkeitsverluste, Versprödung oder der Verlust von Schmierstoffen verhindert werden. Eine sorgfältige Abstimmung aller Komponenten garantiert die maximale Lebensdauer.
Wichtige Faktoren der chemischen Beständigkeit
Zunächst sollte geprüft werden, welche chemischen Substanzen und Umgebungseinflüsse am Einsatzort vorhanden sind. Wichtig: Die Reaktion der Materialien ist von weiteren Faktoren abhängig, zum Beispiel von der Kontaktdauer und Konzentration der angreifenden Substanzen, ebenso wie von der Luftfeuchtigkeit und Temperatur. Man unterscheidet zwischen chemisch beständigen, bedingt chemisch beständigen und chemisch unbeständigen Werkstoffen. Eine gute chemische Beständigkeit weisen etwa rostfreie Stahlbleche, Kunststoffe und thermoplastischer Gummi auf.
