The initial situation

Barco manages a substantial inventory of heavy materials that must be frequently moved, often in areas with narrow aisles. The traditional trolleys used for these tasks are difficult to manoeuvre and lack flexibility, leading to physical strain on staff, including back pain and joint stiffness. Seeking a more efficient and ergonomically friendly solution, Barco partnered with TENTE. Our expertise in developing castors and creating innovative mobility solutions was pivotal in overcoming these challenges.

The challenge

Barco’s trolleys can weigh up to 150 kg, making them difficult to manoeuvre, which exacerbates physical complaints among employees. An urgent need arose for an ergonomic improvement. However, the existing trolley manufacturer’s solution, costing up to €3,000 per trolley, was neither cost-effective nor scalable. It became clear that a more innovative and practical approach was necessary. TENTE proposed the E-Drive as a solution, an electric drive system that can be easily fitted to a variety of trolleys. Barco developed a prototype trolley that could accommodate the E-Drive system with its motorised castors, allowing it to be attached to other trolleys regardless of their base designs. This adaptable solution marks the success of the collaboration between Barco and TENTE, demonstrating our shared commitment to enhancing operational efficiency and workplace ergonomics.

Our intelligent mobility solution

TENTE’s E-Drive is an innovative electric drive system that provides up to eight hours of continuous operation per charge. It features a robust fifth wheel designed to effortlessly handle heavy loads. The control levers on the trolley’s handle allow for seamless multi-directional movement, significantly improving manoeuvrability. Additionally, the retractable wheel mechanism enhances ergonomics, meaning that staff are no longer burdened by back or joint pain. This partnership between Barco and TENTE is a testament to the power of collaboration and innovation. It exemplifies how working together fosters the most effective solutions, and more importantly, how it contributes to a smarter, more efficient world.
