Frequently Asked Questions
Sockets are fitting accessories installed in prepared blind holes or tube ends to create a defined interface for compatible castor stems. The TENTE range includes round synthetic sockets, round zinc-die-cast sockets, square plastic sockets and a plastic socket for wooden furniture. Selecting the correct sockets helps the stem seat securely, remain aligned and suit the dimensions and load of the application.
Socket diameter determines whether the socket fits correctly into the prepared blind hole or tube end. In the TENTE range, round tube sockets are available for several diameters, while square versions are specified by the corresponding tube size. A correctly matched diameter supports secure seating and alignment; if the dimensions do not correspond, the fit may be too loose or too tight. Always match the socket to the mounting opening and stem system.
Sockets work as the receiving interface between the application and a compatible stem fitting. The socket is inserted into a blind hole or tube end, then a matching collar or circlip stem is pushed into it. The dimensions of the socket and stem must correspond so the castor is held in the intended position. Depending on the design, TENTE sockets are matched to specific B-series push-in fittings and centre-hole sizes.
When selecting sockets, check the shape and dimensions of the tube end or blind hole, the matching stem fitting, the relevant bolt/socket diameter, collar diameter and required load capacity. The selected socket must also suit the castor's centre-hole/fitting configuration. TENTE offers different round, square, synthetic and zinc-die-cast options, so the exact choice should be based on the complete mounting arrangement rather than socket size alone.
Our product range uses sockets primarily with compatible push-in stem fittings. Examples include collar stems with grip rings, circlip stems and related B-series fittings, depending on the castor centre-hole and socket design. Threaded stems and expanding fittings are also available in the TENTE fitting range, but they form separate mounting solutions; the socket should therefore be matched to the specific stem/fitting specified for the application.
Collar diameter is the outside diameter of the socket's locating shoulder at the opening. It affects how the socket seats against the tube end or blind hole and how much space is required around the mounting point. TENTE sockets are offered with different collar diameters to suit different body/tube dimensions. The collar size should therefore be checked together with the socket diameter, stem type and available mounting space.
Round sockets are used when the castor is mounted into a round blind hole or round tube end and a compatible push-in stem is required. The TENTE range includes synthetic round sockets, zinc-die-cast round sockets and round tube sockets in several diameters. Selection depends on the matching stem, opening diameter, centre-hole configuration and required load capacity, so the complete fitting combination should be checked before installation.
Square sockets are suitable for square tube ends where a compatible push-in stem needs a defined mounting interface. The TENTE range includes plastic square tube sockets in several sizes, with matching collar dimensions and a specified 40 kg load capacity for the listed versions. The socket size should correspond to the tube dimensions and the intended B10 stem fitting to support stable seating and alignment in the application.
Load capacity for sockets should be checked as part of the complete castor and fitting combination, not as an isolated value. In the TENTE range, listed socket capacities vary by design: synthetic round sockets for Ø8 mm centre-hole furniture castors are specified at 30 kg, a zinc-die-cast round version at 80 kg, and the listed round/square tube sockets at 40 kg. Always follow the rating of the selected configuration.
Our product range includes sockets in different materials to suit the mounting design. Examples include synthetic/plastic round sockets, plastic square sockets and round zinc-die-cast sockets. There is also a plastic H40 socket intended for wooden furniture. Material choice should be considered together with stem compatibility, socket dimensions and load capacity, as different socket designs have different ratings and fitting geometries.
