Castors for office chairs
The choice of castor for an office chair depends primarily on the type of floor:
Ergonomics in the office plays an increasingly important role in society. This also applies to the office chair. Adjustability of the seat height, armrests and seat area is essential for ergonomic office chairs. It is also vital that the right office chair castors are fitted, because the wrong castors will have a negative effect on health, on the floor and on the chair itself.
An ergonomic office chair is equipped exclusively swivel castors to allow perfect mobility. The castors glide smoothly over the floor without much effort on the part of the person sitting on the chair. The standard castors are 50 mm and 65 mm in height and are equipped with a stem fitting. The stem size is 11 x 20 mm.
Office chair castors for various types of floor
The right castors for an ergonomic office chair depend on the surface on which they are used. As with all castors, the principle applies here too: On softer floors, use harder castors and on harder floors, use soft castors. Accordingly, soft-floor castors have a harder tread, which is ideal for carpets, for example. If the castors used on carpets are too soft, the castors may start to pick up fluff, which eventually makes them difficult to move. It is especially important to avoid this on carpets that have a particularly high rolling resistance. However, if soft floor castors are used on hard floors, they can cause scratches.
Therefore, appropriate hard floor castors with softer treads are used on hard floors. These minimise the wear on the floor and at the same time reduce the noise they make on the floor. For this purpose, we have developed a particularly floor-friendly solution: TENTEprene, a thermoplastic rubber that runs easily and leaves no marks. By the way, it is easy to distinguish between hard-floor and soft-floor castors: Hard floor castors are usually two-coloured, soft floor castors are single-coloured.
