Frequently Asked Questions
Foot protection is an accessory fitted around the wheel area to help prevent a person’s foot from being trapped, run over or crushed by a moving castor. TENTE foot protection combines flexible rubber aprons in front of and behind the wheel with rigid side guards. This arrangement provides protection from different contact angles while retaining the flexibility needed for practical use on industrial transport equipment.
Foot protection helps reduce the risk of ankles or feet being struck, trapped or crushed when a trolley is moved. Flexible aprons press towards the wheel when they contact a foot, helping to stop the castor from rolling over it, while rigid side guards guide the foot around the wheel. This all-round approach can improve workplace safety and may also reduce injury-related downtime and associated costs.
Foot protection combines rigid steel elements with flexible natural rubber. The rubber aprons are positioned in front of and behind the wheel and have a Shore A hardness of 80, giving them the flexibility to move inwards when contacted. Rigid side guards provide additional lateral protection. This combination supports all-round shielding around the wheel while allowing the castor to remain usable on varying floor conditions.
Our product range includes foot protection options for the Delta, Zeta and Kappa industrial castor families, with foot protection also listed for Kappa Load variants. The exact solution depends on the selected castor, wheel diameter and configuration, as different foot protection versions may be available on request. Matching the accessory to the relevant product variant helps ensure correct positioning and reliable operation.
The flexible foot protection range is available for wheel diameters of 125, 160, 200 and 250 mm. Selecting the correct size is important so the protective elements sit in the intended position around the wheel without unnecessarily restricting movement. Other castor configurations may have different foot protection options available on request, so the wheel diameter and product family should be checked together before selection.
Foot protection can support trolley movement on ramps because its flexible design is intended to cope with changing floor conditions rather than behaving like a rigid guard close to the ground. However, ramp suitability depends on factors such as gradient, wheel diameter, trolley load and castor configuration. The selected foot protection should therefore be checked for adequate clearance and unrestricted wheel movement throughout the intended ramp transition.
Foot protection is designed to remain flexible when a trolley travels over uneven surfaces and obstacles. Unlike a fully rigid guard that may contact the floor and cause abrupt stopping, the flexible rubber elements can adapt as the wheel moves across changing ground conditions. The steel side guards maintain lateral protection, helping the trolley remain manoeuvrable while reducing the risk of a foot reaching the wheel.
On transport trolleys, foot protection is fitted at floor level around the castor wheel, where accidental contact with a user’s foot is most likely. Flexible rubber aprons are positioned in front of and behind the wheel, while rigid guard rails sit to the sides. This arrangement can be used on industrial trolleys carrying heavy or bulky goods, helping protect operators without preventing normal manoeuvring of the trolley.
Foot protection is designed for quick and uncomplicated retrofitting, making it possible to add protection to suitable existing castor configurations without replacing the complete trolley. Versions are available for several wheel diameters, so the correct accessory must be matched to the castor family and wheel size. Proper positioning around the wheel is important to maintain the intended protective effect while allowing normal swivel and rolling movement.
A single fixed ground-clearance value is not specified for foot protection, because the available clearance depends on the wheel diameter, castor family and installed configuration. The flexible design is intended to cope with uneven surfaces and obstacles without the behaviour associated with a rigid guard touching the floor. For a precise clearance requirement, the dimensions of the selected castor and matching foot protection should be checked together.
Foot protection is suitable for operating temperatures from -40 °C to +80 °C. This range was developed with industrial production conditions in mind and can support applications where transport equipment is exposed to both low and elevated ambient temperatures. The complete castor and wheel configuration should also be checked for its own permitted temperature range, as the overall application is governed by the limits of all components used.
