What are flanged wheels?

Flanged wheels are used for transport equipment that runs on rails.

Flanged wheels

Flanged wheels are the type of wheels that are used on rails. On the inner side, i.e. the side facing the middle of the track, they have a vertical bead, the flange, which keeps them in line. The tread that rests on the track butts up to the flange. If two flanges are connected by a wheelset shaft, the entire construction is referred to as a wheelset.

TENTE flanges are manufactured in a very heavy version made of polyamide with a precision ball bearing. Polyamide has the advantage of excellent abrasion resistance and the capacity to carry heavy loads. It is also temperature-resistant from -40 °C to +80 °C, so that it can be used in a wide range of applications. Customised flanged wheels can be equipped with a keyway. Depending on the version, the load capacity of the flanged wheels ranges from several hundred to several thousand kilograms.

Uses for flanged wheels

The best-known applications for flanged wheels are, of course, railway trains, trams and underground trains that run on tracks. In addition, the wheels are used wherever transport equipment runs on rails. This includes, for example, mobile cranes and production lines in many industrial sectors.
