Foot protection for castors

The protection of personnel plays an important role in mobile castor applications. If feet should accidentally get under the wheels, serious injuries can occur. To prevent such injuries, castors can be equipped with a foot guard. This is screwed or welded onto the housing, for example, and is available in different sizes. The distance between the guard and the floor can also be selected.

Foot protection in different variations

There are two standard types of foot guard for castors: the rigid and the spring-loaded foot deflector. The first type has rigid guard bars fitted on all sides, while the second type consists of spring-loaded elements. Both types meet all of the requirements for castor protection systems in accordance with EN 349, EN 811, EN ISO 13857 and EN 953.

However, both types also have slight disadvantages in certain situations. Rigid foot deflectors, for example, can cause problems when the castors run over ramps or uneven floors. The foot guard can easily hit the floor and cause the equipment to stop or even tip up. With spring-loaded foot deflectors, this cannot happen, since these are simply pushed upwards on uneven surfaces. Here, however, there may be difficulties with retrofitting, and damage can occur more quickly if the foot guard bumps into obstacles.

TENTE innovation – A combination of rigid and spring-loaded foot protection

One solution to these problems is to combine the rigid guard bars at the sides with springy aprons located in front of and behind the castor. This TENTE system solution provides optimal protection and prevents the problems that occur with the standard versions. Feet are protected from all potential angles of impact. These guards are also easy to replace or retrofit.
